Telethon Raises $32,340 in Three Hours
April 26, 2010
Released: April 24, 2010
Last night the local FOX television station aired the first ever local Telethon to benefit the Wesley House Community Center. Donations were made over the phone and in person by local merchants, churches, and individuals wishing to show their concern for the needs of others.
In just three hours, while the broadcast premiere of the movie FACING THE GAINTS was being aired on FOX 30, the phone bank in the Meridian Family of Station’s studios rang with donations. After the movie concluded the donations were tallied by the volunteer staff at $32,340 for the Wesley House. 86.7% of those funds will go directly to meet the needs of individuals in our area through one of the six agencies within the Wesley House.
Mike Reed, local owner of FOX 30 said “We are just thrilled to see how people rally to support one another in this wonderful community. It was a “God thing” the way the phones rang with donations from all over our coverage area. Donations came in from Bay Springs, Waynesboro, Scooba, Philadelphia, Butler, Livingston, Newton and Meridian. One individual donated $5,000.”
Ginger Stevens of the Wesley House wanted us to pass along her sincere gratitude for the outpour of love and support. She offered a big thank you to Mike Reed and Angie Denney of The Meridian Family of Stations along with B103 radio’s Scotty Ray and Debbie for hosting the successful telethon event live on the air at FOX 30.
